Her name’s Moxie. Moxie McCoy. Bold, opinionated, and haplessly self-confident, the world’s greatest fourth-grade detective faces her biggest challenge! When someone kidnaps beloved school mascot Eddie the Owl, Moxie is on the case – but she’s forced to fly solo now that her best friend (and crime-solving partner) has moved away.

Moxie must interview her classmates – both as potential new best friends and as possible suspects. She finds clues and points fingers but can’t save the owl on her own. Enter Moxie’s little brother, Milton. Quiet, cautious, and boring as a butter knife, he’s a good listener.

Can the Real McCoys form an unlikely alliance and solve the crime of the century?

This book has got to be one of the most FUN books I have read in a long time! Perfect for any age, whether read to younger kiddos or enjoyed by readers like me who like to take a trip back to grade school days.

If you like cartoons, mysteries and fast, funny stories, this is for YOU. I read this in less than twenty-four hours (323 pages) so it is a very fast read. A great story to just take a break from life with. Lots of fun!

happy book dance

I really liked that the author and illustrator are married and they tell a bit about themselves at the end of the book.

No spoilers here 🙂 You have to read it for yourself. Only thing I will say is Moxie must be an Aries! Have fun falling down the rabbit hole with this one!

    1. My two cents here……
The book I reviewed that I so thoroughly enjoyed in this discussion really did earn five stars. I read everything from bumper to bumper and it was completely and thoroughly enjoyable. The storyline was strong and kept moving at a good pace. Characters were developed and rich, like a lucious dessert at the end of a long-awaited meal. And…..best part…..it brought back memories. Memories from raising my kiddos, and from my childhood. Happy stuff.
I’ve learned something here, go with my gut. My honest opinion. After all…..isn’t that what you really want??
So, in my heart, The Real McCoys got a five star rating. It’s a book I will be buying to keep for me, to enjoy again and again😊

  1. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! It’s always so nice to hear such specific notes about your book once it’s out in the world. I especially liked that it brought back happy memories of your own. ❤ !! Thanks so much for sharing our book with your readers and for taking time and care with your reviews. I read about the five-star dilemma in your other post and I agree, sometimes a rating system is curved a bit because you're self-selecting. I (personally) am not going to finish a book that I consider a 1 or 2 star book (so many books! so little time!!) but then wouldn't feel comfortable writing a review of a book that I didn't finish, either.
That said, as a creator, I SO appreciate any thoughtful feedback from readers – positive OR negative. It is so helpful to know what is landing and what isn't. So I particularly appreciate those reviewers who have clearly taken the time to formulate their opinions (and back them up). There's nothing more frustrating than "I just didn't like it" (or even "I liked it" with no explanation). Which is to say: thank you! 🙂
