[Review] Diary of a Teenage Jewel Thief – Rosie Somers [Blog Tour]

diary of a teenage jewel thief tour

What better way to start off a Monday morning than with a YA blog tour? And, while I will devour many different genres, YA is not only moving to the front but increasing its lead with each amazing new book I read! So let’s talk about this one!

diary of a teenage jewel thief - rosie somers

Most sixteen-year-olds shouldn’t know where museums keep their rarest jewels (the basement) and they really shouldn’t know that vans make the worst getaway cars. But for Marisol Flores, a life of jewel thievery is a birthright handed down from generation to generation, even if she didn’t ask for it. So when a rival thief targets Mari and her mother, Mari’s more than happy to flee to the anonymity of bustling New York City.

Blending in is a dream come true for Mari, but keeping her former thieving ways a secret gets way more complicated when handsome Will Campbell sets his sights on her. She can’t help but like his terrible puns and charming grin . . . but when her past catches up with her, it’s not only her life – and her anonymity – that’s at stake.

Will could be the next target.

Doesn’t this book sound amazing? As if that blurb wasn’t enough, we even have a little teaser for you!

When his tongue darts out to wet his lips, I unconsciously mirror the action, and he sucks in a deep breath in response. A little thrill shoots through me at the realization that he’s reacting to me that way because he wants to kiss me. And if I’m honest with myself, I want to kiss him. I can almost feel his lips pressing against mine. Every fiber of my being is caught in his gravitational pull, aching to be near him.

What can I say, I’m a true romantic at heart 🙂 And that is one reason why I enjoyed this book. Even though I was hoping for a bit more jewel thievery, I loved the romance aspect of it. Will and Mari definitely made a great couple. That being said, I did want to see more of Mari’s jewel-thief life, other than just the botched heist at the beginning where Petrov (the bad guy) finds them and then the blip at the end. The real meat of the story focused on Mari and her mom hiding from Petrov in NYC, trying to have normal lives.

Of course, I loved the ending (no, I’m not going to tell you what it is!) because I thought it wrapped everything up perfectly.

The pacing of this book was spot on, as well. I didn’t notice any lulls and I actually flew through it. I read this in only a couple days (with two small kids, that’s sometimes a challenge) and, especially toward the end, I had a hard time putting it down. The one thing I would like to see, however, is a companion novella that maybe shows what Mari’s life was like before New York? But that’s just my inability to let characters go. I always want more 🙂

[Audio Tour] Paradise Cove – Patrice Wilton [Review & Giveaway]

Paradise Series Banner

This new heart-warming contemporary romance takes place in the Florida Keys and promises romance/passion, and plenty of adventure.

Cardiac surgeon, Sean Flannigan, lost his daughter to a rare form of leukemia; he can mend broken hearts, but his is beyond repair. Kayla Holmes, along with her sisters, inherited guest cottages in the Keys after their stepfather died. Their high spirits and positive energy are a beacon of light that directs Sean’s sailboat into Paradise Cove. Can Kayla’s compassion find a crack in Sean’s armor? Sometimes love isn’t enough to heal a wounded heart.

Paradise Cove - Patrice Wilton

For the first half of this book, I completely intended to give it 4 stars. Then, I finished up the last 50+ pages in the middle of the night and ended it with a silly grin on my face (yes, those are pretty frequent). The end of the book definitely brought it up to 5 stars.

I did have one issue in the beginning and that was figuring out which of the women was the one speaking. All the voices blended together . . . in the beginning. So I downloaded the Kindle version and tried to read along with the audio. Then, about 1/3 of the way through the book, this wasn’t a problem anymore. The characters’ voices seemed distinct enough, I think. And I really enjoyed the accent Cynthia Vail gave Sean *almost swoons just thinking about him* She did a great job with Sean, as well as with Miguel and his family.

This book was definitely an easy read/listen. I loved the characters and the story had a very good flow/rhythm to it. There were very few, if any, downtime spots. Everything kept moving along so I always wondered what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to dive into the next one (also an audio for me!).

Disclaimer – This book does have a few very steamy sexual encounters but it wasn’t over the top. I suppose I would call it an 18+ novel but it wasn’t too bad.

[Review] Meet Your Match – Lindzee Armstrong

Have you ever loved a book so much that you couldn’t wait to devour all the books in the series? That was me with this book! meet your match - lindzee armstrong

Sixteen-year-old Brooke Pierce doesn’t need her mom to tell her all boys are trouble. After watching her dad break up the family for a woman half his age, dating is the last thing on her mind.

On the first day at a new high school Brooke meets Luke, the school flirt with a reputation for heartbreak. He’s interested. She’s not. That only makes him chase her more.

After a shocking revelation from her dad, Brooke and Luke form an unexpected bond, complete with crazy rules to keep them safely in the friend zone. Problem is, that’s the worst place to be when you’re falling in love.

I received this book free from the author by signing up for her newsletter. I knew the author but hadn’t read anything by her when I picked this one up. So, with Mr. Chu drawing a chalk picture on the chalkboard bar that has long-since been removed (too little space, too much chalk dust) and Lady Quinn nestled in my arms, finally asleep (we seem to go through these phases quite a bit), I opened up my Google Play Books app and started reading.

Okay, so that was mid-morning. By evening, I had finished the book (yes, it’s only a 100-something page novella but I have two small children who seem to require A LOT of attention when I sit down to start reading!). And the verdict? It. Was. Amazing! I got to the last page and sat there staring at it. I couldn’t believe it was over. And oh, did I ever crave more! (I think this might be part of my problem . . . you know, why I just can’t get into stand-alones. I always want more). If I didn’t already own every book that had been published at that point, I would have been on Amazon within seconds, madly searching out the next book in the series. It’s that addicting (well, and I might have a teensy book buying problem but shush, no one needs to know that!).

Oh, and writing this review is torture because I just want to gush, gush, gush about this book! But, for obvious reasons (spoilers), I can’t. So, you’ll just have to go pick it up for yourself on Amazon (or, if you want it for free, sign up for Lindzee’s newsletter to get your own copy!).

[Review] Between the Reins – Liz Isaacson

between the reins - liz isaacson

I am always a bit wary when trying out new authors and I joined this author’s Street Team on Facebook before really reading any of her books. So I sat down to read this one and I was sucked in right away. It was such a cute second-chance love story. The main characters had been together in high school and then he left to pursue his dream of music, leaving her behind. Years pass, he becomes guardian of his deceased sister’s daughter, and he ends up hiring her as his nanny. Sparks fly again and it was just so romantic! Of course, there are a few bumps along the way but I loved how the story progressed. The biggest thing I liked was that all three characters, adults and child alike, had their own voices. Many times, an author will make their characters all sound the same, basically an extension of themselves. But this book wasn’t like that. It made it really easy to tell who was talking without seeing a name on the page.

This book definitely has me wanting to read more of the series. And there aren’t really any spoilers (at least, not that I’m aware of) because, although it’s book 4 in the series, they all pretty much stand on their own feet. Companion novels, I think is what they’re called.

If you’re looking for a great, clean romance read that’s perfect for summertime (or anytime), you can pick it up on Amazon! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

[Review] Falling For Forever – Melissa Chambers

I was given an advance copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are my own and are not influenced by the author or the publisher. I was also lucky enough to get to do an interview with Melissa Chambers last week, along with doing a re-post review of The Summer Before Forever.

falling for forever - melissa chambers.png

The second Jenna Quigley turns eighteen, she’s headed to L.A. to extend the timer on her fifteen minutes of fame. Too bad her dad made her promise to graduate high school first. Silver lining? Her new school has a serious talent competition with a $25,000 cash prize, which would go a long way in L.A. Jenna’s got plenty of talent – she didn’t almost win America’s Newest Sensation for nothing. But it’ll take everything she’s got to bring down the music nerd with a stick up his butt . . . no matter how cute he is in those glasses.

Miles Cleveland needs to win that talent contest. When some hot girl stole his audition spot on America’s Newest Sensation, his chance to study music flounced off to New York with her. Now, not only can he win enough money to pay for his education, he can get revenge on that very same girl. He can’t start to question his plan, though . . . no matter how deep Jenna buries into his heart.

Last summer, I read and reviewed the first book in this series (The Summer Before Forever). I really enjoyed the story but it only made it to 4 stars. And Jenna Quigley’s character just wasn’t a favorite. I loved Chloe but Jenna? A loyal friend, yes. Not my cup of tea, though.

Then this book comes along, focusing on Jenna’s character and I’m thinking “oh no! What have I gotten myself into?” Surprise – I really enjoyed Jenna in this book. I loved getting inside her head and seeing how she reacted to things. Just goes to show you can’t judge a character by their supporting role.

And Miles, oh Miles! I loved how they clashed at first – and for good reason, too – and then start falling for each other (this is a love story . . . that’s not a spoiler). Miles was the perfect clash for Jenna! And those are always my favorite types of romances!

This book effectively wrapped itself up but, like all the good ones, it left me wanting more of the characters. I hope to see more of Jenna and Miles in the future (even if it turns out to be a re-read).

Does this sound like something you’d enjoy? Check it out on Amazon – it releases today! Happy Book Birthday, Melissa!

[Review] The Summer Before Forever – Melissa Chambers

the summer before forever - melissa chambers

Last summer, I got to review this book for a tour. On July 3rd, the second book of this series is coming out so, I thought we would share this review again.

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it when they first started getting into the romance part because, well, they’re going to be brother and sister by the end of the book. Not blood related but still. So I found myself reading along, intrigued to see how the author was going to solve that problem. And along the way, I fell for Landon, too. He’s sweet and considerate and he stands up for Chloe, protecting her not only like a brother but also like a really amazing boyfriend. The more the book went on and I expected to be weirded out, I really wasn’t. And Chloe! She’s this shy girl in the beginning. She’s been through some rough stuff and so her best friend, Jenna (not my favorite character but a pretty loyal best friend), comes up with this bucket list of things for Chloe to do to build up her confidence. So you get to watch shy Chloe, who’s never really been in love before, go through these amazing changes as she works to be a stronger person. And it was a great love story, too. Definitely a great summery read!

If you’re waiting for Falling For Forever (Jenna’s story), which releases on July 3rd (just in time for the Fourth of July holiday!), head on over to Amazon and grab a copy of The Summer Before Forever so you’re ready to go for book 2! You won’t be disappointed!

Happy Thursday 🙂
