500 years before Theo met Cassia, Leander met Lyda.

The Netherworld was never meant for the living. It steals a mortal’s sanity piece-by-piece, day-by-day. No one understands that better than the God of Death. But the chance for even a single day of company is a seductive thing and Leander can’t help looking forward to each sacrifice.

When the last mortal country outlaws human sacrifice, Leander’s new bride becomes his last. Though he knows he should let Lyda continue on to her afterlife, the pair grows closer and the God of Death hesitates in the face of eternal solitude. But soon, Leander must decide between being selfish and selfless.

I loved Theo and Cassia’s story and Leander intrigued me from the first time I met him. I was eager to read this one and, having done so, I feel so sad for Leander. He is such a sweet character, even as the God of Death, and so much of me just wanted him to be happy, to find that peace that he wants so much for everyone else.

The entire book is only 41 pages long and can be read in one sitting but it struck me just as strongly as Fragile Chaos did because I was really able to see into Leander’s soul. I think Lyda was the perfect complement to him, but the circumstances were such that you knew right away it would never work for them.

As Lyda was the perfect complement to Leander, so this novelette was the perfect complement to Theo and Cassia’s story.

bittersweet

I really hope to see more from the Fragile Chaos world. These characters have my heart and I don’t think I’ll ever get it back ❤
