Summer is FINALLY in full-swing here in the Upper Midwest. And what comes to mind when you think of summer? Roasting marshmallows over a campfire. Day trips to the beach. Fireflies and ice cream (hopefully not together 🙂 ). What we think of is summer road trips! So, why not put two things we love – reading and road trips – together? Save on gas money and just buy more books!
How to Play
- Make a sign-up post / tweet / TBR on your blog or social media, telling everyone you’re going on a road trip with us in July!
- Pick a starting point – this can be a state or a country. The goal? Read a book that takes place in this state / country, then move on to a connected state / country and read a book taking place there. The only catch? The states / countries must be connected. It’s like a real road trip.
- Don’t forget to come back here and link-up so we know you’re participating 🙂
- Tell your friends!
Your road trip starts here in Minnesota. Your first task is to find a book that takes place in Minnesota. Goodreads will be your best friend for this!
Got your book? Great! Now for our next state. You can pick any state that connects directly to Minnesota. North / South Dakota, Iowa, or Wisconsin. If you decide to leave the country, Canada is also an option. For this example, I have chosen South Dakota. All I did was Google “books set in South Dakota” and found the Goodreads link. Easy peasy.
Follow the states until you either run out of time (July 31st at 11:59PM in YOUR time zone) or you hit water. If the latter is the case, you can jump anywhere that is connected to that body of water 🙂 What does this mean? Washington, Oregon, California, and Canada or Mexico could ALL connect to Hawaii or Alaska. As long as they are touching that body of water. If you’re going to jump all the way to Asia, however, you need to first make a stop at Hawaii. No jumping over states or countries. They must all be directly connected.
Have I lost you yet? Any questions?
This read-a-thon runs from
