They’re reincarnated soulmates. So why is he pushing her away?
Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from 1815 England . . . but she doesn’t know it until she meets her soul mate from the past and he triggers her memories to gradually return.
When Drew Carmichael moves to Lizzie’s town, Lizzie feels a connection to him, like she knows him. But he wants nothing to do with her. She knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, but that gets harder and harder as memories of her past life return. And the more Lizzie remembers, the more she’s determined to unravel the mysteries of the past . . . no matter how deadly those secrets might be.

Let’s start with the narration first. Andrea Emmes did such an amazing job bringing this book and its characters to life. Some narrators struggle to differentiate between the characters so, without the words in front of you, it’s hard to tell who’s speaking. That wasn’t the case here. She changed her voice just enough when Drew was speaking and there was even a difference between Chelsea and Lizzie. This audiobook was incredibly easy to listen to and I will definitely be searching out more books narrated by Andrea Emmes.

The book. Beautifully written. No plot holes that caused me to fall out of the story. Very well written. That being said, let’s talk about those pesky characters. I’ll get the psychotic crazy lady rant constructive criticism out of the way first. (Don’t misunderstand – I really enjoyed this book!)

Chelsea – you are a horrible friend! Oh, I feel so much better! But seriously, Chelsea is supposed to be Lizzie’s best friend but instead, she spends the majority of the book concerned with herself and her latest “flavor of the month”. Where is that supportive friend? She has no idea Lizzie is going through anything at all because she is completely self-absorbed, manipulative, and whiny!

Jeremy, too. All I can say about him is . . . what a douchey jerk.

Lizzie – I really enjoyed her character. She wasn’t a drama queen and at the same time, she wasn’t this quiet little mouse. She tried to be very honorable, keeping her feelings for Drew hidden because she was dating Jeremy and he was dating Chelsea. She tried to do the right thing. I loved watching the mystery of her past life unfold as she started remembering different pieces.

Drew – I’m not going to say much about him. Very hunky. And, having read the entire book, I understand his motives. That being said, he has a few very harsh moments throughout the book. Maybe he could have been just a teensy bit gentler when trying to keep Lizzie from falling for him. Just a bit.

I absolutely loved the references to Pride and Prejudice. Lizzie and Mr. Darcy fit perfectly into this story and I enjoyed how they were woven in with Lizzie and Drew. Then there’s Alistair! Oh, he was one of my favorite characters 🙂 I picture this cute little old man librarian hiding away in a dark, quiet bookstore. A sweet, spunky little old man. I definitely enjoyed his character and was pleased that he kept coming back.

This was the first book so, even though many things are wrapped up, it is left open. I am definitely going to keep going with the series 🙂

  1. Hey Megan! This series sounds fun, lol, reincarnation isn’t my thing but i have to admit that I’m intrigued at the idea Drew has motives for pushing her away! And you’ve got to like a girl who is trying to not hurt others! It’s the cute little old man librarian though that hooked me! ♥️ Great review, audiobooks can be so hit or miss to me… glad this narrator was so good!
